What We Do

Hitman Injection Tuning is the leading name when it comes to IM240 Emissions Certification.  Whether you need a report for an engineers inspection, a defect clearance, or you just want your car running as clean as it can possibly get, we can handle the job. With hundreds of cars already certified, we have the most experience and knowledge of how to make your car run the way it was designed.  Hitman offers a turn-key service, whereby you simply leave your vehicle with us and then wait for a phone call to pick it up with your report, all ready to go.  There are also fixed fees for this service so you know how much it costs before we start work, and you do not need to book your own session at the RTA.

Even if you are another workshop Hitman can also offer a discrete service. Why spend countless hours trying to diagnose why a particular vehicle fails the emissions test, not to mention booking the test and the travel time getting to the test centre. Hitman can handle all of this for you, allowing you to continue normal business without the stress.

All vehicles left in our care for the purpose of emissions tesing need to be in a street-worthy, driveable condition as they will need to be driven to and from the RTA testing centre. Because the vehicle needs to be driven on a dyno, both the front and back brakes need to be fully operational.

About The IM240 Test

As the name suggests, the IM240 Test is a test lasting 240 seconds on a dyno whereby a simulated road course is run.  The test is designed to emmulate normal road driving conditions to assess the typical emissions output of a vehicle.  The test checks for the output of Total HydroCarbons (THC), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), and Carbon Monoxide (CO).  In laymans terms, THC is unburned fuel and causes a bad smelling exhaust, NOx is a cause of smog and acid rain as well as attacking the respiratory system, and CO is an odourless but toxic gas.  The required levels you need to meet depend on the year of manufacture of your yehicle.

Your vehicle will be driven on the dyno at light load up to a maximum of 95km/h.  The test does not check for wide open throttle emissions and it does not give you a power output figure or graph. The test course shows up any poorly designed engine management systems, as well as poor tuning. The exhaust gas analysis system incorporates and high volume vacuum pickup which quite literally sucks all of the air from under the car, so there is no cheating the test.

There are two testing centres in NSW, with these being at the Penrith and Botany RTA Emissions Testing Facilities. With our workshop being near to the Penrith Centre, this is the place where our vehicles are tested.

Why Are The Authorities Making Me Do This?

All vehicle that were originally manufactured to meet a certain emissions levels are required to always meet those levels.  If your vehicle has been modified you are required by law to show evidence that the vehicle continues to meet it's required emissions level.  Most do not realise this until they are inspected on the roadside, or they are applying for an engineers report.  What the authorities in effect have done is help eliminate bad modifications and workmanship, and instead make sure your modifications are done correctly.
